Our Vision

Our vision is impact disease through clean water in two countries:  Ghana and South Sudan.  We will reduce the impact of a neglected tropical disease, Buruli Ulcer, in targeted districts of Ghana.  We have a vision of grants that interlock to provide the ability to have a major impact on Ghana and later on the whole of West Africa.  We will have a strategy that will make a major impact on Buruli Ulcer and other neglected tropical diseases.  The need exceeds the scope of these grants.  We will be able to work in the communities most impacted by Buruli Ulcer and other water borne disease.  The communities are pleading for our assistance.  We hope to have additional future grants that supplement the work done by these grants.

We will also drill new wells and boreholes in South Sudan in partnership with the Carter Center and the Juba, South Sudan Rotary Club.  The South Sudan Guinea Worm Eradication Program has prioritized the communities needing clean water to drink to help drastically cut the incidence of disease in those communities.  We are raising the money from 2012 into spring of 2013.  Our goal is to raise $175,000 for the people of South Sudan.

Summary

We will drill new boreholes, new hand dug wells, repair boreholes and wells, provide household latrines, and education on how to prevent disease and identify disease early.  We will also provide medical care for Buruli Ulcer patients to prevent disability.  We will use the latest research about Buruli Ulcer and other diseases to make an impact on disease.  The work will primarily occur in the Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Regions of Ghana.

We are writing the South Sudan grant now and raising money.  The South Sudan grant will be a regular Rotary Matching Grant.  The grant will deal with clean water and improve the health of the communities by fighting Guinea Worm Disease disease.  We are looking for pledges for this grants.  The funds can be paid to The Rotary Foundation by May 2013 after the grants are approved.  We can also accept cash contributions.  We will use the lessons learned from matching grants 69051, 69066, 71926, and global grant 25176.  The leading Rotary Club in Ghana in Sunyani Central and Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Clubs in Ghana.  The Kumasi East Rotary Club is joining the effort against Buruli Ulcer with Canadian Rotarians in 2012-2013.

We can change the world, one person at a time, and one drink of water at a time.
